The Peshtemal, a gift from Anatolian culture to the world, is a rectangular woven cloth used for covering the body in traditional Turkish baths. The peshtemal tradition survives today with its delicate texture, high absorbency fast drying and lightness come together with Basic Layers concept of production and design which brings authenticity to a universal platform.

With its timeless designs combining natural fabrics such as high-quality Turkish cotton and bamboo using state of the art looms, Basic Layers breathes new life into peshtemals and expands their areas of use.

Emerging from the Turkish bath ritual, the peshtemal appears in bathrooms, saunas, pools, gyms and at the beaches. It also becomes an essential part of our journeys, thanks to its space-saving delicate texture.

Basic Layers Turkish towel collection is complemented by bathrobes, hand towels, blankets, bathrobes and beach cover-ups.

The lightweight Turkish towels and bathrobes dry rapidly during the summer and are also occasionally used as morning gowns and beachwear. Our trendy colors make these towels possible to use as a pareo, shawl or scarf.

We reach the best possible quality by weaving our products organically.

I grew up in Istanbul/Turkey where we had frequent visits to Turkish baths, which has been a tradition for centuries, and we would use peshtemal to cover ourselves.

Later in the years, I started grabbing these towels to the beaches to dry myself. From that point on Turkish towels have been in my beach bag, bathroom and travel bag.

When I moved to the States as a young student, my friends started admiring me using these practical, lightweight towels. Basic Layers was born in Southern California shortly after. I wanted to create simplicity with modern designs that would meet most requirements in life.

At first, it wasn’t easy to convince my customers to change their thick towels to these lightweights, compact and multiuse towels. It was when I started getting repeat customers, that made me realize that I was on the right path. “Bringing traditional use of our towels to meet modern time needs of our customers”.

10 years later, here we are distributing Turkish Towels nationwide.
